Recently, the Long Branch Free Public Library was proud to attend the 89th Libutti Awards Dinner, hosted by the Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce. Congratulations to this year’s honorees, including our very own Friends of the Library past-president Alice Kessler!
 
Upcoming on November 8th, the Friends of the Library are hosting a Scholarship Dinner at Johnny Piancone's, with Gabor Barbaras from the NJ Repertory Company as guest speaker. Ticket information is available further in the newsletter.
 
November also brings National Native American Heritage Month, and we invite you to explore our recommended reads celebrating Native American history and culture. Click here for our curated list.
 
Lastly, as part of our new Arts & Parks Program, we’re offering free pairs of tickets to "Your Name Means Dream" at the NJ Repertory Theater and "The Color Purple" at the Count Basie Center for the Arts. For more information, contact Kate Angelo at kangelo@longbranchlib.org.

Thursday, November 7th and 14th - Long Branch Arts & Cultural Center

Lessons are designed to give students an opportunity to develop, explore and enhance their visual art skills. Each class seeks to foster an appreciation for one’s own creative process while promoting a deeper understanding and knowledge of art literacy.

Johnny Piancone's - 591 Broadway

Join us for dinner and celebrate this year’s new scholarship winners & the upcoming Grand Reopening of the Main Library! Gabor Barbaras will be our guest speaker who will host a discussion about the NJ Repertory Company in Long Branch.

Dinner includes a buffet and 50/50 raffle, where 50% of sales go to the Friends Fund which supports library initiatives and resources.

Tickets for the dinner are $60. You can drop off your check at the Temporary Library or Elberon Branch Library, written out to the Friends of the Long Branch Free Public Library.

Tuesday, November 12th from 6:30pm to 8pm - Elberon Branch Library

 

Megan Gilhool will lead us in a creative workshop where we’ll transform stained or plain fabric, clothing, and accessories into one-of-a-kind pieces! Using paint, you'll learn how to embellish or cleverly disguise stains with fun, artistic designs. Bring an item to repair or decorate, either clothing or a purse or tote bag, and discover how to give them new life through color and creativity. All skill levels are welcome, and supplies will be provided. Let’s turn imperfections into art! Space is limited to the first 15 who register.

Thursday, November 21st at 1:30pm - Elberon Branch Library

Hidden Valley Road by Robert Kolker tells the gripping true story of the Galvin family, in which six of twelve siblings were diagnosed with schizophrenia, making them subjects of a landmark study on the illness. The book intertwines the family's personal struggles with scientific exploration, shedding light on the mysteries of mental illness and its impact on both individuals and society.

Thursday, November 7th from 6pm to 8pm - Senior Center

Join the City of Long Branch for an evening of light classical music! The String Quartet, SIMPLY STRINGS, who have played at the likes of Carnegie Hall, will play a broad repertoire with something for everyone to enjoy. This is a free event with light refreshments. You do not need to be a member of the senior center to attend.

Chess Club for Teens & Children
Every Monday at 4pm - Bucky James Center

Chess club is open to children and teens ages 5 through 17 who wishes to practice their skills against other students. A chess teacher will be available. All levels are welcome. Meetings are now at the Bucky James Center, which is located at 231 Wilbur Ray Ave.

Every Tuesday at 11am - Temporary Library

Story Times and Toddler Times with Ms. Nekesha will take place outdoors at the Temporary Library. Join us for stories, music and a take-home craft!

Every second Wednesday of the Month at 6:30pm - Virtual
