It’s been almost five years since our last bookmobile visit. The original “library on wheels” was introduced in 1973, and later replaced with a new vehicle in 1990. That bookmobile served the community for 17 years before it was officially decommissioned in 2017. The library then purchased a new vehicle, which unfortunately had to be returned to the manufacturer as being a "lemon." Since then, Edison Township has been without a bookmobile.
But now, we at the Edison Public Library are excited to announce that the bookmobile will be returning in May 2023. We're hard at work planning our stops and route schedule, but we need your help!
If you’d like the bookmobile to offer service in your community, let us know by filling out this Google Form. We can't guarantee that all areas that request service will be honored, but this will help us to identify locations around the township of Edison that are lacking representation.
The Bookmobile is as large as a full-sized school bus, so we;ll need a safe place to park as well as a safe place for people to get on and off.
The Bookmobile will be around town the last week of April—which happens to be National Library Week—and officially go back into service beginning May 1.
Needless to say, with the addition of the bookmobile to our services, 2023 is going to be a big year for the Edison Public Library and the Edison community as a whole.
