Jazz is one of the most influential forms of music, giving inspiration to rock and roll, R&B, funk, country, and a number of other genres. But while most people understand that jazz is tied to African American culture, they often seem to overlook its role in the African American Experience.
On Thursday, February 9, the Main Library will be hosting Ronald Shaer of Lewis Gorden Productions LLC to speak on “Jazz and the African American Experience.” Ronald will discuss the history of jazz in New Orleans and how it grew from the roots of blues and ragtime.
This program is part of our series celebrating Black History Month and is perfect for lovers of jazz and fans of music in general.
