Composting serves a number of purposes including reducing waste that ends up in landfills, and as a result, helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and has a huge environmental impact. Composting also improves soil health, which in turn can lead to better plant growth, increased biodiversity, and reduced soil erosion.
But where does one begin with composting?
On Friday, March 24, Rutgers Master Gardener Erika Leviant will be at the Main Library at 10:00am to discuss the benefits of composting and how to start your own backyard compost. She will also answer any questions you have surrounding composting and how it can be beneficial to your garden.
Registration for this program is encouraged but not required.
With joint support from Rutgers University and Middlesex County, the Master Gardener program is a diverse group of dedicated local volunteers working together to enhance our garden spaces and educate the public.
