Mental illness and mental health awareness are, unfortunately, far too stigmatized in this country. There are many people who suffer with anxiety or depression but feel it isn’t right to open up about their fight for some reason or another. Maybe they’re embarrassed to admit their struggles, or they grew up in a household that taught talking about such things was a sign of weakness.
With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, we’ve decided to combat this and help to normalize people opening up about their struggles. That’s why we’ll be hosting NAMI—the National Alliance on Mental Illness—for two sessions of their In Our Own Voice presentation.
In Our Own Voice features people who suffer from a variety of mental illnesses opening up about their experiences. Attendees get a first-hand perspective of what living with a mental illness is like and shows that they don’t have to feel alone.
The goal of In Our Own Voice is to show that those afflicted with the illness can still live long, happy, and enriching lives.
Information about the sessions is below, so register to the location most convenient for you.
