Wild Women of the Blues: Origins of American Popular Music

Kirsten Thien & Erik Boyd perform select songs from the 1920s and 30's catalogs of Ida Cox, Ma Rainey, and Billie Holliday—among others—demonstrating some of their original styles, describing the conditions these women endured, and how, as the Blues caught on, it would significantly transform over time while retaining elements of the original styles.
