Armed Forces Day, celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May and falling on May 20 this year, is a significant occasion to honor and show gratitude to the bravery of those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. This day provides an opportunity for citizens to recognize the sacrifices made by military personnel in protecting their country's freedom and sovereignty.

First established in 1949, Armed Forces Day raises public awareness about the vital role of the armed forces. The military is responsible for safeguarding the security of our nation and protecting citizens from threats such as terrorism and foreign aggression. By celebrating Armed Forces Day, people can better understand the sacrifices and dedication required of military personnel to keep their country safe.

In observance of Armed Forces Day, we’ve collected a selection of books available from the Edison Public Library that highlights important aspects of the different branches of armed forces so that patrons can better understand their role and history. We would also like to take time to honor military personnel, their families, and the valuable contribution they make to national security.
