Gender dysphoria—the distress experienced by individuals whose gender identity differs from their assigned sex at birth—can have a significant negative impact on an individual's mental health and manifest in various ways, such as anxiety, depression, and social isolation.
One of the main factors contributing to the negative mental health outcomes is the struggle with self-acceptance, which can lead to intense feelings of shame, guilt, and confusion about their identity. These feelings are compounded when transgender individuals are faced with societal prejudice and a lack of acceptance, which can culminate in low self-esteem, self-hatred, and even thoughts of self-harm or suicide.
Join us on Wednesday, June 21, at 7:00pm in the Main Library as award-winning writer and activist Adaryll Moore discusses these topics in a program titled Transgender Mental Health Awareness and Education.
A trans woman herself, Ms. Moore is a graduate of Grambling State University with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Elementary Education. She also earned a Doctorate Degree Certificate from the Walt Disney World College Program, which is the highest to earn in that program. She has dedicated herself to advocating for the needs of the transgender community.
