Happy new year! We’re just getting over our holiday cheer and excited to start 2024 with a full slate of programs. There’s a ton of great stuff in store for January, and here’s just a small sampling of what you can expect from the Edison Public Library.
We’ve got a great program in store for those stricken with wanderlust. Travel and Adventure is a virtual tour led by Road Scholar ambassador Jean McMillan. Road Scholar is an American non-profit organization that provides educational travel programs primarily geared toward older adults and offers study tours throughout the United States, Canada and approximately 150 other countries.
We know that navigating Medicare can be difficult, so American Senior Benefits will be at the North Edison Branch to provide some insight into the process. This program is open to all.
With the new year comes a chance for a fresh start. Join us on Zoom for a new meditation program led by Dr. Matthew Raider. New Year: Fresh Start Through Meditation will teach participants simple meditation techniques to bring joy, peace, positivity and relaxation to their daily lives.
Timothy Hack, the Chair of History and Social Sciences at Middlesex County College, will be joining us again for a new historical program. The US Black Experience will highlight aspects of the black experience in the 19th and 20th centuries in the United States.
Local author Caridad Pineiro will be holding a memoir-writing workshop at the Main Library titled Write Your Life Story. Caridad is an award winning author whose books have sold over 1 million copies, so if there’s someone who can impart some greta knowledge about the craft of writing, it’s definitely her.
Looking for programs for your young one? We’ve got those too!
Our new Baby Bookworm program is aimed at tiny, tiny babies—aged 0 to 18 months—and will explore the joy of reading through simple board books, rhymes, and activities. This program is best suited for pre-walkers, so come prepared to sit with your child on your lap.
Have a child that wants to be the next LEGO Master? Our new LEGO Club will be perfect for them! Happening on the first and third Thursday of the month at the North Edison Branch, the LEGO Club will allow children to explore their creativity through tiny plastic bricks. Each meeting will offer a different building challenge, and all the builds will be put on display until the next meeting of LEGO Club for all of our visitors to see!
Our new Trail of Tales program will celebrate different cultures, languages, and traditions through the magic of folktales. Some of the places participants will visit include Ireland and the island paradise of Tír na nÓg; Korea, where you’ll come face to face with the Dragon King; and stumbling upon the Drummer Boy in India. These stories are perfect for children ages 4 through 11.
All of this and more is in addition to our regular book clubs, Makerspace programs, and the Clara Barton Knitting Circle.
You can see a full list of all of January’s events here, and don’t forget to register on the Events page of our website.
