Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is an enduring symbol of justice and the pursuit of equality. His commitment to a dream of an equal, integrated society continues to inspire generations to achieve that goal. Dr. King’s legacy trancscends time and reminds us of the transformative impact one person can have on the world.

Despite Dr. King’s time being cut short, his dream continues. One year after his assassiniation, the Coretta Scott King Book Awards were established in honor of both Dr. King and his wife, Coretta. The purpose of the award is to highlight and celebrate outstanding works for children and young adults that reflect on the Black experience and promote understanding, empathy, and social justice.

In recognition of Dr. Martin King Day, the Edison Public Library wishes to recognize the winners and a select few of the honorees of the Coretta Scott King Book Awards. These books are readily available at the different branches, and we encourage our patrons to pick up these works of art and reflect on what equality truly means.
