On Tuesday, February 20, award-winning author Jason Mott will be appearing over Zoom to discuss his latest novel, Hell of a Book

Hell of a Book focuses on what it means to be Black in America as it follows the stories of three central characters–a Black author promoting his bestselling novel; Soot, a young Black boy from a rural town in the recent past; and The Kid, who appears to the author on his tour.

Mott’s novel deals with a multitude of themes, including love of family, art, and money but also touches on the epidemic of police violence and how a country can reckon with its idea of the police as our protectors.

Fans can submit their questions for Mott on the sign up page for the chance to have them answered, should time allow.

Mott is the author of four novels and two poetry collections. His first novel, The Returned, was adapted for television and aired on ABC under the title "Resurrection." His work has garnered multiple accolades, with Hell of a Book winning the Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Fiction, the 2021 National Book Award for Fiction, and was nominated for the Carnegie Medals for Excellence Longlist.
