Originally named the Parknook, the Cecilia M. Dunlap was a schooner barge register in New York after being acquired by Norwegian owners. In September 1931, during an expedition from Pennsylvania to New Jersey, she sank in sixty feet of water.
On Wednesday, February 21, join us at local historian and diver, Dan Lieb, appears at the North Edsion Branch to discuss the discovery of the Cecilia M. Dunlap. When the wreck was originally discovered, it was thought to be a tanker due to the 10,000 barrels of oil the ship was carrying at the time of her sinking. However, upon further examination, divers discovered clues on the bottom that led to the correct identification of the vessel and revealed a checkered past with an “explosive” ending.
