This past Sunday, March 10, marked the first day of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and a time when Muslims reflect on their spirituality and fortune. Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, making it a fundamental practice within the religion.
During Ramadan, Muslims devote themselves to self-discipline by fasting and abstaining from drink. Ramadan also emphasizes acts of charity, prayer, and community solidarity. This all occurs over roughly the next 30 days, culminating in Eid on April 9.
As Ramadan is so important to the Islamic faith, getting the younger generation on board with the practice is important to keep its spirit alive. One way to do this is by sharing stories aimed at younger children that will teach them about the holiday and what it means to be Muslim. Below, you will find a selection of books from our collection to help you in educating your child on what makes Ramadan so special.
