Passover (Pesach) is a Jewish holiday that spans eight days and commemorates the redemption of the Jewish People from slavery. Passover 2024 begins before sundown on Monday, April 22, and ends after nightfall on April 30.
During Passover, the Biblical story of the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt is remembered in detail symbolically through foods, songs, and the order of the Pesach Seder, which follows the ‘Haggada.’ There are many commentaries printed on the Haggada that feature stories and explanations to learn more about the Passover holiday and the Exodus story.
To help our residents celebrate the holiday, below are some children's books and a few Haggadahs that can help enlighten your Seder table available from the Edison Public Library.
Passover is also culturally known for its unique foods–including Matza (unleavened) and bitter herbs–as many who celebrate refrain from eating leavened breads for all eight days. We've also included a couple of cookbooks from our collection to help you serve up a taste of the Passover spirit.
From all of us at the Edison Public Library, chag Pesach samech.
