Earth Day, celebrated throughout the United States annually on April 22, is a global event aimed at promoting and supporting environmental protection, honoring the achievements of the environmental movement, and raising awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources for future generations.

The first Earth Day took place in 1970 with an estimated 20 million people nationwide attending inaugural events at tens of thousands of sites, including elementary and secondary schools, universities, and community sites across the United States. Over the past 54 years, Earth Day has evolved into the largest civic event in the world, with billions of people across nearly 200 countries joining together to safeguard our planet and fight for a brighter future. The official theme for 2024 is "Planet vs. Plastics”
