The Edison Public Library system will be closed on Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day but cardholders can still access digital services from their computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Through Hoopla, cardholders have access to a fully digital streaming service offered completely free. In addition to a vast selection of eBooks and audiobooks, patrons can borrow movies, television shows, and music. With the three-day weekend ahead, why not ‘check out’ the aptly-titled 2012 motion picture Memorial Day or 2017’s based-on-a-true-story film Megan Leavey. Hoopla also offers the documentaries Anthem of A Nation and America's Army: Inside The World's Most Powerful Military Force as well as Memorial Day-themed ebooks, including Our American Flag and Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Cardholders can also turn to Kanopy, another free streaming service offered by the Edison Public Library. With a valid library card, patrons can access Kanopy’s broad selection of films and documentaries that can be streamed in their entirety and without any commercials. Some of the Memorial Day-inspired titles available from Kanopy include the documentary Memory of Forgotten War: Four Deeply Personal Accounts of the Korean War or the 2009 full-length film The Messenger. There is also a 7-part documentary series that offers viewers an exclusive look into the legendary stories of both tragedy and triumph that created A History of Heroes as well as 2017’s Sundance Film Festival selection Legion of Brothers: The Secret Mission to Overthrow the Taliban.
