Come ‘catch’ a movie at the Clara Barton Branch on Tuesday, July 2 at 10:00am when the Library presents the 1992 comedy A League of Their Own as its Movie Matinee. Then, on Wednesday, July 3, head over to the North Edison Branch and have the ‘time of your life’ at a 1:00pm showing of the 1987 romantic drama Dirty Dancing.
A League of Their Own, starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Madonna, and Rosie O'Donnell, is set during World War II and centered around the first women's professional baseball league with a focus on the rivalry between sisters - one a sweet-swinging catcher and the other a pouty, impulsive pitcher - who play on the same team managed by a washed-up, hard-drinking ex-Major Leaguer.
Dirty Dancing, featuring a soundtrack that produced the Oscar-winning Best Song "(I've Had the) Time of My Life,” stars the late Patrick Swayze and Jerry Orbach along with Jennifer Grey and Kelly Bishop. The film takes place in the 1960s at an upscale Catskills resort where an innocent teen vacationing with her upper-middle-class family gets a culture shock when she crushes on the hotel’s handsome dance instructor.
So grab a snack - just don’t try to ‘carry a watermelon’ - and make a ‘short stop’ at the Edison Public Library to beat the heat next week for a single, or even a double, memorable movie day.
