Summer is in full swing at the Edison Public Library and while all locations are closed Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day, the remainder of the month is jam-packed with cool, fun, and (dare we use this word in July) educational programs for patrons of all ages.
For children, a Nature Explorers program for ages 6 to 11 featuring hands-on activities as well as Bugs on the Go!, a program for children ages 5 to 11 featuring live bugs and exotic pinned specimens, will take place. The Edison Public Library will also celebrate all things Hogwarts with a Harry Potter-themed Scavenger Hunt for children ages 2 to 11 and an after-hours Harry Potter Party for ages 5 to 11.
This month, the children ages 6 to 11 are also invited to take part in the Library Olympics or put their detective skills to use in a themed Escape Room. Additionally, our friends from Jenkinson’s Aquarium will bring their Rainforest Revelations program to all three locations, offering children 6 and older the chance to explore and learn about the importance of this incredible habitat.
Teens ages 12 to 18 are not going to want to miss their chance to see a real-life wolfdog - or two - during a special visit from our friends at Howling Woods Farm. Young adults can also learn more about The Life of an Illustrator at a Teen Talks program featuring special guest and New Jersey native Zoe Hansen. Throughout July, Edison teens are also encouraged to stop by to catch the movie of the week, make a special summer-themed craft, participate in a trivia challenge, and more.
The Edison Public Library also has a full line-up of events for adults this month, too.
Join actor, musician, singer, storyteller, and tap dancer Richard Stillman, winner of the NYC United Solo Theater Festival’s Best Concert Award, for his Spirit of Vaudeville show. Taking place at the Main Library, the performance will include charming song and dance routines, hat tricks, and music played on banjo, guitar, ukulele, and musical washboard.
Want to learn more about Broadway legend Ethel Merman? Stop by the Clara Barton Branch and be transformed back to the 1930s as singer/pianist/narrator Fred Miller presents a Lectures-in-Song program focused on the famed star of the Great White Way.
We know navigating the health care system can be daunting and confusing so state-certified staff from the Center For Family Services' Navigator Exchange Program will be on hand to provide free, confidential, and impartial services.
All of the aforementioned events and more, along with our regular book clubs, kids crafts, storytimes, and virtual programs, will take place this month. You can see a full list of all of
July’s events here, and don’t forget to register on the
Events page of our website.
