Every four years the top athletes from more than 200 countries gather to compete in the most celebrated international multi-sport event in the world – the Olympics! The upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics kick off in Paris later this month and will include 329 events in 32 sports – including the debut of breakdancing.
Since most of us are not able to jet across the pond to catch the action live and in person, the Edison Public Library is bringing the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad to you!
On Monday, July 22 from 2 to 4:00pm, the North Edison Branch will host its first-ever Library Olympics. Children ages 6 to 11 are invited to make their own Olympic torch and earn medals as they compete in Olympic-themed games such as ring toss, discus throw, and more. Registration is not required, but space and supplies are limited to the first 30 participants.
Through the Edison Public Library, cardholders can also learn more about the Summer Games, including its origins, as well as read up on some of the greatest Olympic feats and most decorated men and women of all time. Check out some of these selections to get you in the spirit of the Games!
