Singer, pianist, and narrator Fred Miller will bring his Lectures-in-Song program to the Clara Barton Branch on Saturday, July 27. The 2:00pm event will feature a historical, anecdotal, and musical profile on Broadway legend Ethel Merman.
From that historic moment in 1930 when she delivered the Gershwins’ “I Got Rhythm” to a stunned audience, Ethel Merman was Broadway’s greatest and most bankable star. Known as the ‘Voice of the Great White Way,’ Merman starred in more than a dozen hit Broadway shows.
A classically trained pianist, Miller’s Lectures-in-Song comprises a series of solo programs focused on the great personality and important aspects of American Popular Song. It began with six in 1999 and now includes more than 70 and growing tributes. In presenting history, biography, and psychology while sitting at a piano singing the superlative songs of his heroes, Miller has found a single performing medium that utilizes most of his intellectual and musical passions.
Lectures-in-Song will take place in the Clara Barton Branch Meeting Room; parking is available in the Library’s lot as well as on the street. Register today!
