What better reason could you ask for to pore over ‘just one more chapter’ than a day dedicated specifically to reading a book?
September 6 is National Read a Book Day, with the official designation designed to not only give book lovers permission to indulge guilt-free in their favorite pastime but also promote the benefits of reading a book to those who may otherwise not do so for pleasure.
Books—whether autobiography or biography, fiction or nonfiction—come in all sizes and genres. Books open up a world of entertainment and knowledge, they can challenge, change, or confirm our perspectives. Books can transport us to new and exciting places and educate us on new topics. And, in many cases, books, as the saying goes, ‘are usually better than the movie.’
In a world inundated by technology, National Read a Book Day encourages us to silence the noise and turn the pages for a while. So why not curl up in your favorite chair and turn the pages for a while with a book from your personal collection or one of these current bestsellers available to Edison Public Library cardholders.
