Also referred to as the Festival of Lights, Diwali is one of India's biggest and most important celebrations and symbolizes the beginning of the Hindu New Year. Diwali, which focuses on the triumph of good over evil, is celebrated worldwide by more than 800 million people, including Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists.
The annual five-day holiday starts two days before the new moon, and, like Catholic Easter, the date changes every year. The 2024 celebration runs from October 29 through November 3 with the Edison Public Library kicking off the festivities a few days earlier.
On Saturday, October 26, head over to the Main Library at 11:00 am for a Diwali storytime and craft program for children ages 3 to 9 years old. Join us for a captivating story about Diwali that will transport you to a magical world of lights and joy and stay for a fun, creative, and festive Diwali-inspired craft you can take home.
Registration is not required but attendance will be limited to the first 15 children.
