Edgar Allan Poe would have turned 216 years old this month and the Edison Public Library is celebrating the renowned author and poet’s birthday.
Join Frank D’allessandro, a retired high school teacher and former preservationist of the Stephen Crane House, at the North Edison Branch on Wednesday, January 22 at 6:00pm for dramatic readings of some of Poe’s most beloved and enduring works, including the short story “The Tell-Tale Heart” and the poem “The Raven.”
Poe, who was born January 19, 1809, in Boston, MA, was an American writer, poet, editor, and literary critic best known for his poetry and short stories. He is widely regarded as one of the central figures of Romanticism and Gothic fiction as well as early American literature while also considered to be instrumental in the establishment of detective fiction and the emergence of science fiction. He is also the author of the short story “The Cask of Amontillado" and the poem “Annabel Lee” along with dozens of other works, including a play, one complete novel, and several essays.
