Holi, a sacred ancient tradition and Hindu cultural celebration also known as the
Festival of Colors, takes place on the day after the last full moon of the Hindu month of Phalguna. Typically, Phalguna falls between late February and early March, and, this year, Holi, which marks the arrival of spring and celebrates the agriculture and good harvest, will take place on
March 14.
To celebrate Holi 2025, the Edison Public Library will hold several events and programs for all ages throughout the month of March.
Holi Celebrations: Stories, Crafts, & Culture featuring award-winning children’s author Priya Kumari will be held at the Clara Barton Branch on Saturday, March 8 at 2:30pm and the Main Libray on Wednesday, March 26 at 6:00pm. Kumari will read from her book My Holi and participants ages 3 to 11 years old will have the opportunity to make Holi greeting cards and marigold flowers.
The festivities for children will continue on Sunday, March 9 at the Main Library with a special Holi-inspired Zumba class. Children ages 5 to 11 are welcome to join instructor Jaya K at 12:30pm to celebrate the festival of colors with vibrant Bollywood dance moves.
Patrons of all ages are also invited to attend the Flavors of Holi program taking place at the Clara Barton Branch on Saturday, March 15 at 2:30pm and the Main Library on Sunday, March 23 at 2:00pm. Led by Kumari, these no-flame cooking workshops will provide participants the opportunity to assemble street-style chaat and create bookmarks using dried flowers. There will also be a colorful photo booth with props.
Registration for these programs is not required, however, participation is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
