Native Land, which has scarcely been shown since its debut over 80 years ago, represents the late Paul Robeson's shift from narrative cinema to the leftist documentaries that would define the final chapter of his controversial film career.
With Robeson's narration and songs, this beautifully shot and edited film, directed by Leo Hurwitz and Paul Strand, exposes violations of Americans' civil liberties and is a call to action for exploited workers around the country.
Edison Public Library patrons are invited to join Joy Barnes-Johnson of the Paul Roberson House of Princeton at 5:00pm on Wednesday, April 16, at the Main Library for a discussion of this seminal work.
