The Edison Public Library will present the documentary Shalom Bollywood: The Untold Story of Indian Cinema on Monday, May 5.
When Indian cinema began 100 years ago, it was taboo for Hindu and Islamic women to perform on screen. At that time, Indian Jewish women took on female lead roles and went on to dominate them for decades. Infused with music and dancing, Danny Ben-Moshe’s Shalom documentary features rare archival footage to tell the story through the lives of some of Indian cinema’s iconic Jewish actors.
Head over to the Main Library for the 5:30pm viewing of Shalom Bollywood: The Untold Story of Indian Cinema and to learn more about the formative place the Jewish community had in shaping the world’s largest film industry.
