The Edison Public Library will present Piccadilly, the 1929 mostly silent motion picture starring Anna May Wong, on Monday, May 19.
In Piccadilly, which will be shown at the Main Library at 5:00pm, a Chinese woman working in the kitchen of a London dance club is given the chance to become the club's main act, which leads to a plot of betrayal, forbidden love, and murder.
Wong is considered the first Chinese American film star in Hollywood as well as the first Chinese American actress to gain international recognition. Frustrated by the stereotypical supporting roles she reluctantly played in Hollywood, Wong left for Europe in March 1928 and went on to star in several notable plays and films, with her career also including appearances on television and radio.
