If you like baseball and have a passion for history, come learn all about vintage base ball (back when it was two words) from Russ McIver of the Monmouth Furnace Vintage Base Ball Club.
During the Monday, August 25, lecture, taking place at the Main Library at 6:00pm, McIver will share details about ‘America’s favorite pastime’ and how it was played during the mid-19th Century—sans gloves and with underhand pitching and various rules that predate the sport’s modern standards.
The Monmouth Furnace Base Ball Club is part of the Mid-Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the sport through live, historically accurate games, and this unique program is designed to provide both longtime fans as well as those new to the vintage baseball scene insight into the sport.
