Deaf Awareness Month is celebrated every September and is an opportunity to learn about deafness, hearing loss, Deaf culture, and more.
In an effort to raise awareness and promote accessibility, the Edison Public Library will host two age-specific Intro to American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Culture programs led by an ASL interpreter. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn useful ASL words and phrases along with key aspects of deaf culture and how to use the Library’s ASL DEAFined database to expand their knowledge.
The Intro to Sign Language program for tweens/teens will be held at the Main Library on Saturday, September 20, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm, with a program for adult patrons taking place at the Main Library on Tuesday, September. 23—which also happens to be International Day of Sign Languages—from 6:00 to 7:30pm.
Registration for both programs is required.
