Each year, the MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival receives over 1,800 entries from all over the world, with just 10 of these films selected as finalists and screened for the public at participating libraries, cinemas, cultural centers, and other venues.
This year, the Festival is returning to the Edison Public Library, and patrons will have the opportunity to view shorts from finalists who hail from Spain, Israel, the United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, Mexico, and the United States. Each short is 18 minutes or less, and filmwatchers worldwide can also cast a vote for their favorite film and actor.
With past finalists from the festival going on to be nominated and to win Academy Awards in the ‘short film’ category, MANHATTAN SHORT is, quite simply, a collection of some of the best short films currently screening in the world today. This year’s MANHATTAN SHORT Final Ten include Al Fresco (Spain), Beyond Silence (The Netherlands), Chasing the Party (USA), Em & Selma Go Griffin Hunting (USA), I Have My Reasons (United Kingdom), Ovary-Acting (Norway), Paradise Man (USA), Passarinho (Mexico), We Have Sinned Before You (Israel), and Zodiak (Belgium).
The films will be shown at the North Edison Temporary Branch on Thursday, October 2, from 10:00am to 1:00pm; the Clara Barton Branch on Friday, October 3, from 10:00am to 1:00pm; and the Main Library on Saturday, October 4, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Ages 14 to adult are welcome and registration is not required, however, seating is limited to 20.
