October is Health Literacy Month, and the Main Library will serve as the host site for workshops geared toward raising awareness about the importance of clear, understandable health information and an accessible healthcare system.
October’s Health Literacy Month programs will kick off on Sunday, October 12, with the Flu, COVID, and RSV: What to Know This Fall workshop, which will focus on prevention strategies, recognizing symptoms, and what to do if someone becomes sick.
Then, on Sunday, October 19, the importance of routine screenings, annual physicals, and DEXA (bone density) scans, with an emphasis on when and why these tests are recommended, will be highlighted during the Preventative Care 101 Workshop.
The Edison Public Library will close out Healthy Literacy Month with the Caring for Elderly Loved Ones workshop on Sunday, October 26. Join us to learn about some of the practical strategies for supporting aging family members, including ideas for safe daily activities, simple exercises, and ways to promote independence while ensuring safety.
Health Literacy Month comes to a close on Sunday, November 2, with a Mental Health Refresh. Topics of discussion will cover ways to manage stress, recognize signs of anxiety and depression, and build healthy coping strategies.
Each of the aforementioned programs will be held in the Main Library’s Meeting Room from 3:30 to 4:30pm. Registration is encouraged but not required.
