Read Across America Day (March 2)—also known as Dr. Seuss Day—is designed to celebrate the magic of reading and inspire both children and adults to enjoy the wonders found in books and, this year, the Edison Public Library is celebrating with three different age-appropriate events for children.
At 11:00am on Monday, March 2, the North Edison Temporary Branch will host a Dr. Seuss Storytime. Parents/caregivers with young children are invited to join our librarian in reading a book of choice out loud to the group, offering a wonderful opportunity to model a love of reading and help make the day memorable for all attendees.
Edison patrons ages 2 to 5, along with their parents/caregivers, are also invited to Read Across the Library! On Tuesday, March 3 at 11:00am, join us at the Main Library as we celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday and honor his whimsical legacy through an interactive storytime session, creative crafts inspired by some of his most iconic characters, and energetic, literacy-themed games.
The Edison Public Library’s Read Across America Celebration will continue on Wednesday, March 4 at the Itty-Bitty Crafters: The Lorax program taking place at the North Edison Temporary Branch. Children ages 2 to 5 and their parents/caregivers can stop by from 11:00 to 11:30am and create their very own Lorax.
Lastly, our celebration ends on Thursday, March 5 with a Directed Drawing: The Cat in the Hat. This 6:00pm program, happening at the North Edison Temporary Branch, will guide children ages 5 to 11 in learning to draw one of Dr. Seuss’s most famous creations, the Cat in the Hat!
The aforementioned programs are open to Edison patrons on a first-come, first-served basis with those planning to read a story during the March 2 program asked to register in advance.
