Sponsored by the
American Library Association,
National Library Week has, since 1958, been observed in libraries across the country each April. The week-long initiative, which runs this year from
April 19 through April 25, serves to recognize the contributions of libraries and those who work and/or volunteer for them and to promote library use and support.
The theme of National Library Week 2026 is
Find Your Joy, and the
Edison Public Library will kick off this year’s celebration a day early with a family-friendly
Book Bedazzling program at the
Clara Barton Branch on
Saturday, April 18 at
3:00pm. Then, on
Sunday, April 19, children ages 5 to 11 are invited to celebrate the books they love at the
Reading Rocks hands-on craft program taking place at the
Main Library from
2:00 to 4:00pm.
On Monday, April 20, a week-long National Library Week-themed scavenger hunt will begin at the Main Library and the Stories with the Mayor program, will take place at 11:00am. Children ages 2 to 5 years old and their parents/caregivers are invited to join us for a reading of an Eric Carle book by Edison Township Mayor Sam Joshi along with a themed community craft activity.
The festivities will continue throughout the week and at other Library branches.
Children ages 5 to 11 are invited to attend the Character Paper Squishies program at the Main Library on Wednesday, April 22 at 6:00pm and, on Thursday, April 23 at 6:30pm, a second Book Bedazzling program will be held at the North Edison Temporary Branch.
For adult patrons, the Library, through a partnership with Parker Health Group, Inc., will host a virtual discussion led by literary historian Mary DeForest. During the Tale for Two Readers: Children’s Books and Classical Literature program, scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at 6:00pm, Deforest will examine the deeper meanings that have captivated readers across generations.
Additionally, the
Friends of the Edison Public Library are holding a fundraiser in cooperation with
Fratelli's Pizza. On
Wednesday, April 22 from
11:00am through 9:00pm, all orders placed through Fratelli's, either for dine-in or take-out, Fratelli's will donate 10% of your total sales to the Friends of the Edison Public Library. Just mention the Friends when placing your order and you will be helping our grassroots organization to grow. For more information,

Residents are invited to join us at one or all of this year’s National Library Week events, or stop by our open house on Wednesday, April 23 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Main Library.
