April is National Poetry Month and, at the Edison Public Library, we are celebrating with a program highlighting the life and work of Paul Laurence Dunbar.
During the Monday, April 20, taking place at the Main Library at 7:00pm, actress, author, and fellow poet Lorraine Stone will explore Dunbar’s poetry and short stories and delve into his tumultuous life and use of (and later disdain for) dialect.
Stone, a founding member of the Asbury Park Reporter and the Asbury Park Museum as well as a 30-year member of the Dunbar Repertory Company, will also discuss the barriers Dunbar broke, including being the only African-American poet in the 19th century to garner international acclaim, and the author of the first all Black Broadway musical.
