With an Edison Public Library card, patrons have access to a variety of virtual programs, including author talks offered through a partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium (LSC) and, this month, Dr. Marisa G. Franco, Reyna Grande, and Karin Slaughter will be hosting chats about their latest works.
On Tuesday, July 14 at 7:00pm, Karin Slaughter, author of the North Falls series, will chat about her book We Are All Guilty Here and its forthcoming sequel, The Secrets We Hide, set to hit shelves next month, during the Small Towns and Big Secrets virtual program.
Slaughter, a New York Times and international bestselling author, has written more than dozen novels, including the Edgar-nominated Cop Town, standalone titles such as Pretty Girls, False Witness, and Pieces of Her, which was adapted into a 2022 Netflix series. She is also the author of the thriller series, Will Trent, which was adapted for television and is currently in its fourth season, as well as The Good Daughter, which was also adapted into a limited series.
On Thursday, July 16 at 2:00pm, Reyna Grande, an award-winning author, motivational speaker, and writing teacher who, as a young girl, crossed the U.S.–Mexico border to join her family in Los Angeles, will host a chat about her new memoir, Migrant Heart: Essays About Things I Can’t Forget.
Centered around the hidden cost of the American Dream and the complex journey of healing that follows survival, Grande’s memoir reflects upon how living between two nations, two languages, and two identities has shaped the woman, mother, and writer she has become.
Her other books include The Distance Between Us, which was a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist, as well as the novels A Ballad of Love and Glory, Across a Hundred Mountains, and Dancing with Butterflies; the memoirs Migrant Heart, The Distance Between Us: Young Readers Edition, and A Dream Called Home; and the anthology Somewhere We Are Human: Authentic Voices on Migration, Survival, and New Beginnings.
Then, later this month, cardholders will also have the chance to join psychologist Dr. Marisa G. Franco for the Power of Connection: Creating Lasting Friendships discussion. On Tuesday, July 28 at 2:00pm, Franco, the author of Platonic: How the Science of Attachment Can Help You Make–And Keep–Friends, will delve into the science of different attachment styles and how they impact our relationships–often in ways we don’t realize.
In Platonic, Franco unpacks the latest, often counterintuitive findings about the bonds between us and explains that understanding your attachment style is the key to making and keeping friends. During this chat, she will also offer a clear and actionable blueprint for forging strong, lasting connections with others—and for becoming our happiest, most fulfilled selves in the process.
