November 2, 2022

It’s that time of year, again. On November 6th at 2:00am, we shift our clocks back one hour as Daylight Savings comes to an end.

Beginning in 1918 as part of the war effort, Daylight Savings was first enacted as a way to ration resources and conserve energy to contribute to World War I. It was then repeated during World War II. It wasn’t until 1966 and the Uniform Time Act that Daylight savings was permanently adopted by most states.

There are many arguments in favor of Daylight Savings and just as many against it. Some people don’t like the interruption of their sleep schedules and having to commute to work in the dark. However, other people feel that late sunsets in the warmer months encourage more outdoor activities and a healthier lifestyle.

Whatever your feelings on Daylight Savings, it’s about the closest thing to time travel we have. In the spirit of that, here are a handful of time travel stories available through the Edison Public Library

So plop yourself down into your favorite chair and pick your favorite from the bunch. It’s a good time, too, since you’re about to have an extra hour you could spend on reading.
