The Teen Short Story Writing Contest is still ongoing! In support of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), the Edison Public Library Teen Advisory Board is hosting the contest and encouraging Edison teens aged 11-18 to submit their stories. The deadline for submissions is November 30 at 5pm, so the clock is ticking if your teen is interested?

Creativity can come from the most unlikely of places. You just need to make sure you’re receptive to it.

Just as importantly, there are many ways to write a story. As award-winning YA novelist Martine Leavitt (Keturah and Lord Death, Tom Finder) states:

“Don’t let anyone tell you there’s only one way to be a writer, or one way to write a story, or one way to do anything at all. Rules shmules—creativity is all about breaking the rules!”

Ms. Leavitt gives some great advice for writers and punctuates it with her own experience in her interview with NaNoWriMo, which you can read here

To learn more about Martine Leavitt and her books, visit her website.
Interested teens can pick up a flyer, Tips for Short Story Writing from NaNoWriMo’s Young Writers Program, at any Edison Public Library branch.

Masks will continue to be a welcome option for anyone who wants
to wear them.
