The Teen Short Story Writing Contest is still ongoing! In support of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), the Edison Public Library Teen Advisory Board is hosting the contest and encouraging Edison teens aged 11-18 to submit their stories. The deadline for submissions is November 30 at 5pm, so the clock is ticking if your teen is interested?

Where do writers get their ideas from? If you’re stuck wondering what you should write about, listen to the advice of kids and teens writer Sarah Aronson (Beyond Lucky, the Wish List series). As Ms. Aronson says, “Eat your dessert first.”

Ms. Aronson elaborates on the quote in this interview, but the gist of her message is to have fun with your writing, and the ideas will flow naturally. Set low expectations for yourself and your writing. Your mind will take you places that you hadn’t considered before, and if you follow that, you may find a fun and intriguing idea for your story.

Visit Sarah Aronson’s website for info on her books and the workshops she provides for writers.
Interested teens can pick up a flyer, Tips for Short Story Writing from NaNoWriMo’s Young Writers Program, at any Edison Public Library branch.

Masks will continue to be a welcome option for anyone who wants
to wear them.
